Exploring the Relationship between Coffee and Cups: An Interesting Discussion

As a coffee lover, have you ever wondered if you could identify which coffee someone is drinking just by looking at their cup? It's a fascinating concept that is definitely worth exploring further. Read on to discover more about the types of cups that are commonly used to serve different types of coffee.

Coffee Cup Conundrum

During my visit to a local cafe yesterday, I ordered a latte but was served in a cup more commonly used for cappuccinos. It made me realize that perhaps the cafe doesn't pay as much attention to such details. I've noticed that popular coffee brands always serve their drinks in appropriate cups - I can even spot my drink from far away just based on the distinctive cup style.

Discovering Coffee and Cups: A Guide

There are many types of coffee and different regions may have their own variations or preferences for how they are served. Here are some common types of coffee and the types of cups they may be served in:

  1. Cappuccino - typically served in a small, rounded ceramic cup to highlight the creamy texture of the foam and milk.
  2. Latte - traditionally served in a tall glass, often with a handle, to showcase the layered appearance of the espresso and milk.
  3. Espresso - typically served in a small, narrow shot glass or demitasse cup, often made of ceramic or glass.
  4. Mocha - often served in a larger mug or glass, to accommodate the addition of chocolate syrup and milk to the espresso.
  5. Americano - typically served in a larger ceramic or tall glass mug.
  6. Macchiato - a shot of espresso with a dollop of milk foam, served in a small demitasse cup.
  7. Doppio - a double shot of espresso, may be served in a larger demitasse or a small ceramic cup.
  8. Ristretto - a shorter shot of espresso, served in a smaller demitasse or shot glass.
  9. Turkish coffee - served in a small, cylindrical ceramic or copper pot called a cezve, and poured into a small demitasse cup.

Again, these are general guidelines and there may be regional variations in the types of cups used.

Coffee Order Challenge: Switch it Up!

How about a fun game for your next coffee order? Try switching it up and ordering a cappuccino, then a latte, and finally a macchiato. Take note of how the cafe serves each drink to you. This can be particularly interesting to try at popular coffee brands such as CBTL. Why not give it a go and see for yourself?

Many of the popular coffee chains nowadays tend to serve their coffee in standard takeaway cups, with variations for hot and cold drinks. However, for non-takeaway orders, these chains often use just two series of cups with three size variations for each - small, regular, and large.

Cup Feedback Experiment

Why not try leaving a comment about the type of cup you received the next time you order a coffee? It could be interesting to share what drink you ordered and what sort of cup it was served in.
