Introducing Labib

Labib joined The Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) in October 2022, bringing diverse experience from several sectors. Prior to this, he worked at the International Rescue Committee, focusing on partnership and program planning, and served as Head of Corporate Partnership and Operations at the Prime Bank Foundation.?

Previously, Labib played a pivotal role at MedGlobal, focusing on program planning, research, partnership building, and GEDI activities in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Additionally, he has experience in climate change and disaster risk reduction, serving as the TED liaison coordinator at C3NTRE, REM Associates company. He also holds a Master's degree in Development Studies and a Bachelor's degree in Social Science from Bangladesh University of Professionals.

Journey into Road Safety

Labib's journey as a road safety advocate has been marked by a profound dedication to promoting safer environments and preventing accidents. Going beyond road safety, his commitment to workplace safety is also palpable, as he actively organizes safety awareness sessions and fosters a culture of safety among colleagues. Labib’s Message on Road Safety


Labib believes that there are key safety practices that the current generation should be aware of and follow to ensure road safety for everyone. Labib stresses the importance of key safety practices for ensuring road safety. He emphasizes the significance of always wearing seat belts, securing children in appropriate car seats, and avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Additionally, he highlights the need to adhere to speed limits and avoid risky behaviors like distracted or aggressive driving.

Furthermore, Labib advocates for a "safe system" approach to road safety, which considers various factors such as road infrastructure and human behavior. He supports policies prioritizing this approach and believes it can significantly reduce accidents. Moreover, Labib underscores the importance of wearing helmets when riding motorcycles or scooters in countries with high rates of two-wheeler use like India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, and Malaysia, Labib emphasizes the importance of always wearing a helmet when riding motorcycles or scooters.

Navigating the Policy and Practice Gap in Government Decision-Making

This situation often results in a lack of coordination and collaboration, which hinders progress in resolving safety challenges.

Moreover, bridging the gap between policy formulation and effective implementation requires overcoming resistance to change and bureaucratic obstacles. These challenges highlight the importance of fostering greater interdepartmental collaboration and a collective willingness to tackle safety issues comprehensively.
