Exploring the Future of International Trade: An Interview with Dr. Rohit K. Gupta by Debby lo-dean
In this episode of Emerging Technology Conversations, I had the privilege of delving into the future of international trade with Dr. Rohit K. Gupta.
Dr. Gupta is not only an esteemed International Trade Financier but also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Global Banking, Finance, and Insurance Committee of the World Economic Forum for Africa and Asia. Additionally, he holds the position of Chairman of the Eurasia Afro Chamber of Commerce.
Our conversation shed light on the transformative shifts expected in international trade over the next few years. Notably, a significant change on the horizon is the transition to electronic currency by more countries, encompassing about 40% of the globe. This shift means countries will increasingly use their own currencies, bypassing the traditional reliance on the USD for trade and thus avoiding the hefty commissions associated with constant currency exchanges.
This movement towards electronic currencies and direct currency usage presents a paradigm shift in how international trade will be conducted. It promises greater efficiency, reduced costs, and a more streamlined global trade system. These changes signal an intriguing era for international trade, filled with opportunities for innovation and growth.
