Exploring the Czech healthcare system

Today, May 19th, we are proud to welcome students from Texas State University to Brno and Prague, Czech Republic, for a 12-day Independent Study in Healthcare Law and Administration in the Czech Republic.

What is Czech and what is European?

The Czech Republic is a Central European country and home to 10.7 million people. The country spends less on health care than the average European union country, both in per capita terms and as share of GDP (9.5% as compared to 11.0 in the EU). Still, the Czechs’ utilization of care is high and unmet medical need is low.

In this course we will bring together US students from Texas State University with Czech institutions, health providers and experts at various academic levels to learn key facts about the Czech Republic’s healthcare system.

During the 12-day we will delve into topics such as historical and social development, governance (healthcare law, monitoring and policy, county councils, and the role of the patient), financing, and service provision (private vs. public, purchaser provider split, and public health services).

In addition, the students will broaden their knowledge of European healthcare when exploring the following question: What is Czech and what is European when it comes to healthcare system performance in the Czech Republic?

Swedish HealthCare Academy acts as both tour- and academic coordinator to ensure a highly valuable experience of learning, cultural immersion, and personal memories for the students to keep long after the course is over.

Sounds like a course for your faculty?
