Exploring animation industry in Middle East

Exploring animation industry in Middle East

On my recent trip to the Sharjah Animation Conference , I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for the myriad of experiences it offered.

From moderating panels with Tom Beattie and Giorgio Welters unveiling the stories of Mr Bean and Hello Kitty to the Banijay Kids and Family presentation of collaborative creations with Beno?t Di Sabatino , Tom Beattie , Giorgio Welters and Giorgio Scorza to the presentation of Sphere Animation talk of Ghislain Cyr about international coproductions, to another talk with Sandro Cleuzo presenting his amazing career and moderating another amazing panel (all women) about making off the great MILA with Cinzia Angelini and Valentina Martelli .

And moderating a panel in Arabic and English presenting Nana al Zanana, the feisty fly from Follk Studios Egypt’s original series on Cartoon Network, with Islam ahmed Creative Director at Follk Creative Solutions, and Aya Hammad the marketing and digital manager of Warner Bros. Discovery for MENA.

Presenting my dear fellow director and amazing talent from Morocco Sofia El Khyari

And meeting the great Dirk Beinhold through his insightful talk about european animation and coproduction that I got to be hosting as well.

And organizing and moderating the African animation panel with guest speakers Vanessa Ann Sinden , Raymond Malinga and Hamid Ibrahim .

To conducting my very own masterclass and engaging in insightful discussions, each moment was a testament to the power of collaboration and cultural exchange.

And Yes I was busy, but I love it that way! Thank you Pietro Pinetti and Basma Reda Ramsis Soliman Khoula Al Mujaini for your trust.

During one panel discussion, a speaker eloquently emphasized that co-production transcends mere collaboration; it embodies an experience. This sentiment resonated deeply with me as I reminisced about my travels. Each journey has been a tapestry of enriching encounters, where I’ve had the privilege to meet extraordinary individuals, immerse myself in diverse cultures, and glean invaluable insights from the people I’ve encountered, particularly women who have left an indelible mark on my journey.

These experiences have underscored the notion that every voyage is a remarkable odyssey, teeming with unexpected twists, enlightening encounters, and boundless opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Yet, amidst the excitement of globetrotting for work, I am keenly aware that this privilege has not come without its fair share of dedication and hard work.

I remain deeply indebted to the organizers whose trust has enabled me to embark on these transformative journeys.

As a woman navigating the animation industry, it has been especially heartening to witness the burgeoning presence of fellow female creators and innovators.

From the shores of Emirates to the bustling streets of Lebanon, from the majestic landscapes of Saudi Arabia to the vibrant cultures of Palestine, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, and Morocco, the voices and contributions of women in animation are indispensable. Their narratives serve as poignant reminders of the imperative of diversity and inclusivity in fostering creative excellence.

Moreover, what adds an extra layer of fulfillment to my travels is the opportunity to connect with international counterparts from Italy, Canada, France, Japan, Spain, and beyond. Each interaction fosters the growth of a network that transcends borders and cultures, enriching my professional journey one trip at a time.

In response to the oft-asked question of what I expect from my work, my answer remains unwavering: to witness the success of those around me.

Whether through collaboration, mentorship, or simply extending a helping hand, there is no greater reward than seeing others thrive in their endeavors.

Together, let us continue to champion each other’s aspirations, celebrate diversity, and pave the way for a more inclusive and vibrant creative landscape.

Here’s to embracing the beauty of every journey and cherishing the myriad experiences that shape our professional and personal narratives. ???
