Free Training Opportunity in Manufacturing In Wisconsin

The Move To Manufacturing Program is a manufacturing-readiness program developed in collaboration with the Central Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance, comprised of proactive Central Wisconsin manufacturing companies in partnership with the Northcentral Technical College. The program offers a free training opportunity to anyone who is interested in obtaining the skills, knowledge, and resources you need to be successful for employment in manufacturing. Individuals can even complete the training while working in your current position.

Manufacturing Essentials Class

The first step in training is to complete the Manufacturing Essentials Class, which is approximately 8 hours. This online, self-paced class introduces you to the basic terminology and concepts needed to be successful as a new employee in the world of manufacturing. While it is self-paced, you are required to complete this course within 30 days after starting it or you simply re-enroll again. Completing this course prepares you for the next step, the Manufacturing Skills Workshop.

Manufacturing Skills Workshop

After you’ve successfully completed the Manufacturing Essentials Class , you will attend five in-person workshops that are 4 hours in duration and coordinated around your schedule. The Manufacturing Skills Workshops consist of approximately 20 hours of in-person, hands-on training that provides you more specialized employment skills in area such as using measuring tools, using hand tools, analyzing blueprints, building, and assembling products, safe work practices, and problem solving. Workshop classes are held at the Northcentral Technical College campus in Wausau in their dedicated M2M training space.

Topics covered in the Manufacturing Skills Workshops:

  • Individual and Team Lifting techniques
  • Cranes and Rigging techniques and safe practices
  • Print Reading Lab along with Spatial Recognition experience
  • Proper use of measurement tools in a quality manufacturing experience
  • Build a mechanical assembly
  • Build shipping crating
  • Analyze and practice best methods through lean and problem-solving techniques
  • Utilize team building and communication skills to be effective workers


Additionally, workshop participants have the opportunity to tour partnering companies, allowing you to see potential work environments before you start working.
