Explaining in a factual manner why the UK should stay in the EU, without discussing the risks involved with leaving.?
An answer to a question in a recent discussion.
The EU is the biggest, most powerful trading block in the world, our ability to trade all over the world is enhanced by representing a market of over 500 million people.
The EU has the highest quality controls on produce and animal welfare anywhere in the world. Not just the food and products produced in the EU but the food and products sold to the EU from outside must comply with these quality controls. We have fewer harmful chemicals used in our food growing, fewer additives, hormones and preservatives in the food we buy and our standards of hygiene and animal welfare are the best.
Anyone living in an EU country has the opportunity to live, study, work, travel or retire in any one of 28 countries. If your employment opportunities are more promising in another country, you can take them.
National politics change, but your rights, up to a point, as a citizen and a worker, are protected by EU law. It is less likely that the EU will swing wildly left or right than the government of any individual country.
We are empowered, not just economically but politically through being part of the EU. Other countries - the US, China, Russia, who might seek to take advantage of smaller countries cannot do so when that country is part of the EU. It’s an added security to that which we get from NATO, which is currently being undermined by Trump and Putin.
We have free, frictionless trade with our closest and biggest market. It is much easier, less bureaucratic and faster to move product around a market that comprises 50% of our world custom. And they aren’t ten thousand miles away.
All the EU countries are democracies and secular. If you believe societies should be democratic and not influenced by religion, the best way to maintain those conditions is to be in a union of like minded countries.
Personally I’m not religious but have a deep relationship with God through His Son, and wish the rest of the EU would do to, but that’s another conversation.
The world is at a particularly dangerous age in its development. Global warming and the rise of populist nationalism is making the planet less safe and more precarious. If we want to influence the way the world responds to these threats, and coordinate defences against climate change and totalitarianism, the best way to do that is to be in a union of like minded countries.
Economic power, frictionless trade, expanded opportunities, greater security and global influence.
