Here are a few of the key points that resonated with the audience from the recent FoundHer panel hosted by
美国西北大学
and moderated by our, CEO,
Marta New, PhD, MBA
:?
- Find your likeminded people. Focus on talent and diversity of insight. Prioritize networking and utilize university infrastructure to facilitate connections. Forging these connections establishes a trustworthy track record, attracting investors. Start with finding coworkers or a mentor to get you through fundamental A-B-Cs.?
- Failure is unavoidable…learn from it! Entrepreneurship is an educational experience. Embrace the fact that failing is guaranteed and use those experiences to learn how to quickly assess the problem and implement a solution.?
- Aspiration, enthusiasm, and passion for starting a company can dwindle. Get the science right and build a strong foundation, and interest and success will follow. Startups are a 24/7 lifestyle, but worth it… It takes time to build a company from the ground up. Time will eventually become more valuable than money, and you will be glad you’ve built a company of people you can rely on.?
- There are pros and cons to acting as CEO for your own company. Pros: you can closely monitor the company, retaining influence and control. Cons: you lose what academia can offer, which is creative freedom and innovative potential without having to consider investor wishes.?
