QUICK FIRE ADVICE FROM THE REAL WORLD
Leaders It's Time For A Good Hard Look ??
Part of introducing continuous learning to a workplace is taking a critical look at current roles within the organization.
Across all roles, teams and functions.
Not just what's delivered, but how these roles are delivered in terms of style and manner.
I've used these questions early in projects to:
- assess how relevant current role/s are to future strategic plans
- gain new insights into the reality of people to make informed decisions
- identify capability gaps and the right skill mix to fulfill these
So, here's my questions to check if your roles are still on point
1??
What's most relevant to roles in terms of delivering high value work?
2??
What outcomes + impact need to be added to roles to support delivery of high value work? The missing piece.
3??
Do current role/s add to operational waste? If so in what way?
4??
If you answered yes to question 3 what would need to be different to remove or reduce waste from these roles?
I facilitate these questions as part of a consultative experience between Leaders, Managers and individuals so there is early ownership and buy in.
Early ownership has always been key to us achieving both people and commercial growth.
WANT SKILLS TO BE WORTH THE EFFORT – THEN YOU NEED ROS
There’s no shortage of focusing skills at the moment but not much about how we measure ROS – the return on skills.
Skills are not the new organizational currency.
It’s the new value you create back into the business with said skills that is.
Q & A - LESSONS FROM THE COMMUNITY
I’ve had the benefit of developing over 2000 people, across a wide range of roles and industries since 2008.
There’s moments when you work with people who change how you think and look at life and business.
They have as much as an impact on you as you on them.
Jackie Sincock is one of those people that makes you reflect on how you're living your own life.
FOR LEADERS SERIOUS ABOUT STOPPING THE WASTING OF WISDOM AND SKILLS
This was the first of my conversations with Md Ishaq Mohiuddin??where we spent an hour unpacking different topics including:
-??How leadership and teams can embrace entrepreneurial thinking to fulfill gaps and manage risk.
-??How businesses can capture human expertise and turn 'too hard' challenges into genuine opportunities.
-? De-risking brain drain and how to start from a practical perspective.
-??Creating the workplace conditions and environments for experimentation.
Enjoy and I’d love to know what some of your key takeaways are from the discussion ??

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
In 2008 I founded Kiikstart so purpose led brands have the capability and conditions to make continuous learning and experimentation part of everyone’s role.
And have a space to generously share insights and lessons learnt within teams and cross teams.
Why?
Expertise and wisdom developed over time leave the building when people move on to their next role. Or retire.
So, I’ve dedicated the last 16 years creating the circular workplace where L & D is fair and equitable and wisdom and skills are 100% leveraged regardless of role, team and function.
Making both people growth and commercial impact part of every role and project.
I look forward to you joining me on the trip. ?
Regards,
Ali Uren

2 个月I love love love the visual that demonstrates the "busy vs. productive" state of teams. So many leaders I talk to equate busyness and hours worked with outcomes driven, and I think we need to leave these Industrial Era definitions of productivity behind.
