Experiencing Burnout As Black Women In The Workplace. | Black Women & Toxic Jobs

Welcome to the newest edition of my weekly newsletter for Black Women Toxic Job Survivors! Please subscribe to be notified about future postings.

This past week, I have been mourning the loss of three Black Women in high-profile leadership positions: Dr. JoAnne Epps, Temple University President; Attorney Linda Gordon Howard, Congressional Aide, Law Professor and Trustee; and Dr. Orinthia Montague, President of Volunteer State Community College.

We honor the notable contributions they made in their respective fields. We also honor the multifaceted people they were and the countless lives they touched.

Yesterday, I discussed the specific ways burnout can affect Black Women in the workplace with my special guest, Litza Bodden, Licensed Professional Counselor and Speaker of Shining Lights Counseling, LLC, for my weekly live interview series on my YouTube channel, which takes place every Sunday.

Here are some gems Litza shared with us:

"Your job is just a piece of you. There is way more to you than just your job or your degree."
"Check in with your community, with the people surrounding you, because they're going to help you pull out of this bad season. We all have those bad seasons. Remind [yourself] that this is a bad season. I'm in this bad chapter of this book, but in the next chapter, things are going to get better."
"I stayed there for a long time because I was so passionate about my clients. I stayed there and I put up with it. But it was becoming so toxic for me that I was like, it was going to be me or this job and I chose myself. It took a while to get there and to take that leap because I was comfortable."

Here is what Robin shared about how my YouTube channel has helped her:

Step Into Your Queendom

If you're currently in a toxic job that has you feeling lost, disconnected from yourself, and not able to even think about how to leave, I created a roadmap for myself that you may also find helpful.

This digital fillable workbook, called "Welcome to Your Queendom," provides you with prompts you can respond to rediscover yourself (your "Queendom") and tap into your inner knowing so that you can begin to envision a life outside of that toxic job.

Here is what Marissa said about how the workbook benefitted her:

"'Welcome To Your Queendom' played a pivotal role in my journey towards liberation. It truly helped me regain my sense of self-worth and reconnect to my authentic voice after feeling like I had lost myself completely. If you're struggling in a toxic environment and wondering how you can ever make it out, I highly recommend using this workbook as your guide."
