Is Experience Truly The Best Teacher?

Well, I’ve been on a writing sabbatical. It’s been the most intensive few months at the agency. Where do I start this gist from?

We hit our record number of clients in one month. This stretched me to think above and beyond at insane speeds. We hired two new hands, and we are still hiring. Please express an interest in us here

In this newsletter, I am not going to front; many things broke: my screen time was averaging 16 hours a day, my call log was a mess, my sleep pattern was distorted; in fact, my weight-gain regimen broke, my calendar apps stopped responding. But how did I manage to resolve the mess? Keep reading!

The truth is, I didn’t. I stumbled through it; some lapses happened, and some people felt they were not getting enough attention, coughs.

I’ll tell you one thing: as a founder, you’re tasked with two major decisions:?

• Hire extra hands before you need them (or before the contract comes in)
• Hire extra hands only when the deal comes through

I have tried both options and don’t recommend any; let’s get deeper into context.?

I tried the first option in early 2022 and got a few promises from clients: we were getting booked calls from clients in the United States as often as bi-weekly without any paid ads - I also don’t know how that happened, nor have I been able to replicate the phenomenon. A local company here has also committed to moving forward with us (no fees yet).?

I broke down this potential project and got a few people to join us. None of these deals came through, and now I had overhead costs lingering; this got us into a desperate mode to find a client to keep the lights on. Sadly, I had to let them go with pay.?

The second option usually sounds sensible, but there is a caveat: you may have to rush through / skip your hiring process to get someone to fill in the shoes; this can alter many things and disrupt the internal culture you spent months building up and maintaining.?
