The Experience That Transformed My View on Life and Death

The Experience That Transformed My View on Life and Death

This article is inspired by the insights and discussions presented in the newest episode of the Born to Heal Podcast by Dr. Katie Deming, The Conscious Oncologist.

I recently had the opportunity to be a guest on the EvolutionFM podcast where I went deeper into an experience that completely changed my perspective on life, death, and healing.

As you may already know, I was a dedicated radiation oncologist for over 20 years, fully committed to Western medicine. I thought I had it all figured out. But in the fall of 2020, something happened...

It was during one of my regular meditation sessions one night. Out of nowhere, I heard a woman's voice saying, "I can't leave, but it's not because of me. It's because of them." Somehow, I instantly knew she was dying and talking about her loved ones. Without hesitation, I started comforting her as if I was right there with her. At some point during the meditation, I realized that the person connecting with me was a woman named Misty.

What happened next was extraordinary. I felt her soul pulling away from her body, accompanied by popping sounds like strings being released. Suddenly, it was as if the sky opened up, revealing the brightest light I'd ever seen, enveloping me in pure love.

I knew that Misty didn't go anywhere. Like, I knew she carried on. It was just this body that had perished. In that instant, I understood that death isn't the end, but a transition to something beyond our current understanding.

I didn't know Misty personally, but she was actually the best friend of one of my colleagues. Misty was in her early thirties and battling breast cancer. While I had never met her in person, I had been indirectly involved in her care.?

I had been coaching my colleague on how to support Misty through her illness, offering guidance on pain management and how to honor Misty's wishes to stay at home during her final days. I had also been helping my colleague navigate the emotional challenges of losing a close friend at such a young age.?

This experience, known as a shared death experience, completely transformed my outlook. It not only eliminated my fear of death but also made me acutely aware that I wasn't living in alignment with my true self.

It led me to question everything I thought I knew about medicine and healing. I began to see the limitations of our current medical system. While it does a lot of good, it often fails to address the root causes of illness.

As I explored holistic approaches to healing, I discovered the profound connection between our emotions, thoughts, and physical health. I learned that suppressed emotions and unresolved trauma can manifest as physical ailments, including cancer.

Now, I view cancer and other illnesses differently. They're not just random misfortunes, but rather our body's way of communicating that something needs attention. As I mentioned in the interview, cancer or any chronic illness is a crisis, and in every crisis, there is opportunity. And this is our body's way of showing us we have to pay attention. There's something here that needs a deeper look.

This perspective shift can be incredibly empowering. Instead of feeling like victims of our bodies, we can see illness as a message guiding us toward greater health and wholeness.

Living authentically is crucial for our well-being. When we ignore our inner voice and live in ways that don't align with our true selves, we create discord within our bodies. This discord can eventually manifest as physical illness.

So, I encourage you to trust your intuition, even when it doesn't make logical sense. Your inner wisdom often knows what's best for you, even when it goes against societal norms or expectations.

Remember, you have more influence over your health than you might realize. By addressing emotional traumas, practicing self-love, and living in alignment with your authentic self, you can create an environment within your body that promotes healing and vitality.

I'm sharing my story because I want you to know there's more to healing than what conventional medicine offers. There's an incredible potential for healing within you, waiting to be tapped into. After all, we're all born with the capacity to heal.

By opening our minds to new possibilities and listening to our bodies, we can start our journey of true healing – one that encompasses not just our physical health but our emotional and spiritual well-being too. It's a challenging path, but one that can lead to profound transformation and a deeper understanding of what it means to be truly healthy and alive.

If you want to hear more about this experience, I have uploaded the entire episode to the Born to Heal podcast. You can listen to the full episode here.
