'Experience'? slows progress

'Experience' slows progress

I've been doing this longer than you!

Every time I've had a different perspective, this was the response I got.?

And for many years, I used to think it made sense.?

But if time is the unit of measure to calculate experience, shouldn't jellyfish be more evolved than humans? Experience is a hammer, and every other perspective that doesn't conform to it is a nail.?

We all gain experience just by not dying. Some of it stems from luck and some from privilege. Experience is essentially a by-product. And if you're looking to change, challenge or grow, relying on experience will not get you far.?

Furthermore, the traditional notion of 'experience' leads to narcissism. Experience, however, allows you to expand your social contracts. These social contracts let you climb ladders and break ceilings, the traditional measurement of progress.???

So rather than accumulating 'experience', it's best to acquire 'energy'. The best ways to earn energy is to (a) diverse your social circles and (b) spend more time with younger people. The latter is crucial, as the young have a high-risk tolerance coupled with .a "f#ck you" attitude.?

Energy is essential for movement, to earth, man and machine. 'Energy' allows you to move fast and break things; experience prevents it. So next time you hire or join a group, check for energy within the group and compare that to the BHAG.?
