Experience Safety Training Center for Bangladesh!
Youngwoo Ind. Ltd. Is a company that specializes in the production and installation of safety experience equipment, and it is now recognized as the best, innovative company in the field of safety experience equipment in Korea. Even after 20 years in the development and manufacturing of safety experience training and practical safety training centers, the innovation and passion for new safety experience products have never stopped. In a fresh approach, this is impressively demonstrated by the world's first Safety Training Academy for Bangladesh delivered in 2021.
The International Labour Organisation recently posted: “It is estimated that over 11,000 workers suffer fatal accidents and a further 24,500 die from work-related diseases across all sectors each year in Bangladesh. It is also estimated that a further 8 million workers suffer injuries at work – many of which result in permanent disability. Although little research has taken place in Bangladesh, it is internationally recognized that most occupational deaths and injuries are entirely preventable, and could be avoided if employers and workers took simple initiatives to reduce hazards and risks at the workplace.”

For Youngwoo Ind. and its customer Samsung C&T it is, therefore, more than just a business! It is about making sure that the employees and workers in Bangladesh can go home to their families every day healthy and safe, just as they started the day. It’s another milestone for the country on its vision zero journeys.
We believe that this safety training center is a perfect solution and honorable appreciation for the safety and health efforts for Bangladesh, for Samsung C&T, for Youngwoo Ind., and for all the workers in the country to be further motivated to prevent accidents at work through an innovative safety training academy.
Because Learning Safety in an experience safety training academy with tools, machines, or processes that are copied from the workers original workplace and adjusted to simulate the hazards and risks as they can occur in reality is a perfect translation of safety theory into safety practice and combines all training elements (physical and digital) in a unique product for a practical demonstration of workplace safety in Asia and beyond!

Large construction sites have considerable potential for accidents and are thus among the most dangerous places for employees to work. Due to the constant progress of work, the construction site changes continuously, and with it the sources of danger and risks. The area of construction and construction sites includes safety training modules that simulate a large part of the known hazards and risks by means of practical applications and new techniques under controlled conditions.
In total 18 individual modules forming the body of the safety experience training center (overall product) for Bangladesh Safety Academy consisting of:
Confined Space Training Station
Guardrail Collapse Experience
Fall through Opening Experience
Heavy Machinery Training Module for Blind Spot, Being stuck or crush in between heavy machinery, swing area of the excavator, and many more features to learn hazards and risks associated with heavy machinery.
Fire Fighting Exercise
If fire-fighting could be learned from theory alone, then there would be no need for firefighters to hold practical exercises. But that's exactly what firefighters do, they train for emergencies using practical exercises and scenarios. And there is a reason for it, to do the same with the workers at the construction sites.
It makes a big difference whether you have heard something about the operation of a fire extinguisher in Safety Induction or at best have read the manual, or whether you have already extinguished a real fire with a fire extinguisher. Here too, practice makes the difference.

With the Fire Fighting learning experience, workers learn first about fire prevention as this should be always the first choice. Before the trainer turns on the fire combustion and starts the fire fighting exercise with the workers, some information on fire hazards at the workplace, good housekeeping practice, the fire triangle, and sources of ignition should be explained. Typical flammable materials used on the construction site are discussed as a reference.
In the next step, the trainer turns on the fire combustion and starts the fire fighting exercise with the workers. Workers learn to discharge the extinguisher within its effective range using the P.A.S.S. technique (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep) and ensures everyone knows how to act safely, reducing the risk of injury or loss of life in the event of a fire. The main goal is not to train workers to professional fire-fighters, but to train the basic fire-fighting techniques as this can help to prevent small fires from becoming big emergencies. The exercise is rounded off with information on nearest assembly points, alarm types and alarm pushbuttons, emergency escape routes as well as the risk of smoke and position of wind direction flags.
The Safety training module for the area of "working at height" is already being used in practice by many international corporations for accident prevention. Here, the focus is not only on "doing it yourself" but also on the memorable moment of surprise or shock. How this works can be explained using the following example.
Here, a scenario is presented in which several safety aspects are pointed out at once. With a length of approx. 6 meters, a width of approx. 6 meters and a height of approx. 5 meters, the module itself represents the simulation of a steel structure. A staircase provides safe access to the upper platform. The entire module is constructed and approved in accordance with the applicable country regulation standards. Now, what should be trained by experiencing?
To protect always the safety of the workers during the safety training, some VR elements have been newly invented with VR technology. It is a combination of VR with the steel structure practice module. The worker experiences a situation in which the steel frame shakes and the worker falls while moving on the steel frame. In an animated environment that is realistic for the future workplace, workers learn to recognize dangers and to apply the appropriate control measures as defined in the risk assessment and safety instructions. The combination of virtual and physical training remains permanently in the worker's memory.
Almost all construction sites have hot works and almost all construction sites have injuries or property damage as a result. Not all of them are severe, but hazards with hot work are most frequently related to fire and explosion hazards and welding, cutting, brazing, and grinding hazards; but also, the exposure to welding arcs and welding fumes can result in serious and disabling long-term health injuries for workers.
This training module combines practical exercises as well as a demonstration for inflammable products used, stored, or handled at the workplace. Hot work permit requirements as well as the close combination of the fire-fighting and emergency modules make it a comprehensive learning lesson and maximize the attention and educational effect of raising safety awareness to the workers.
A practical exercise is given to illustrate the distance of flying sparks so that it becomes clear why the work area must be largely cleared of combustible materials and why fire blankets or other barriers against flying sparks must be used.
Good and bad practices for hot works e.g., grinding, welding, cutting, etc.
Fire by direct heat source e.g., sparks from grinding, cutting activities, welding activities, open flame, and indirect Heat e.g., Conduction are demonstrated. A simple exercise would be a container wall, where inside the container wall chemicals are stored or any other flammable material. Workers start welding or grinding works outside the container wall and the potential risk for fire due to conduction heating is prepared.
Seeing that such accidents or fire break-outs are really caused by unsafe behavior, by unsafe conditions,s or by unsafe acting and that every worker can try it out by themselves, maximizes the educational effect of raising safety awareness so valuable. And this is what the safety experience training is made for. Help workers to transfer the safe work methods from theory into practice!
The main targeting of the Bangladesh Safety Academy is to get the pyramid smaller by start changing from the base and not from the top! Reduction in unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and a lower risk tolerance level as well as the right decisions by each individual worker is the main targeting of the Bangladesh Safety Academy to positively influence workers to open their eyes for hazards and risks at their workplace. With this, critical events like Near Misses, Injuries, or at least serious accidents can be prevented.?
The safety experience training method works on changing people's behavior, i.e., on the understanding that the behavioral effort for safe working is not seen as a kind of punishment, but comes from the awareness that accidents can be prevented by my own safe working.
Creating good framework conditions for behavioral changes and thus promoting Bangladeshi workers' awareness of safety is crucial for a future safety culture that is lived out in Bangladesh. One way forward is the Bangladesh Safety Academy, where training through hands-on trial and error influences workers and changes their behavior by consciously allowing them to make mistakes in a safe environment, thereby learning the consequences of unsafe behavior or lack of safety awareness.
Ultimately, behavior change and the associated development of a safety culture are influenced by many factors.
Making occupational safety tangible means for us:
This type of safety training academy for the workers in Bangladesh will also serve as a blueprint for other construction and industrial projects in Bangladesh and in any other countries worldwide to train safe behavior as easily and understandably as possible. Because, Accidents do not happen, they are caused!
Ultimately, effective safety experience training tailored to the work and culture of the country not only serves to protect against accidents but is also an expression of the company's and countries appreciation for its workforce!
