Experience the magic of giving by getting your team to TechPong

Do you remember the fair coming to town when you were a kid? The spinning rides, the fun-house mirrors, the cotton candy, the irresistible prizes...my young mind imagined this kind of fun, and the fair made it real.

That’s why I’m such a big fan of this year’s TechPong theme. By evoking an old-school carnival, Vancouver’s largest tech fundraiser is again making the kind of magic that only happens when imagination becomes reality.

There’s more to this compelling transformation than the carnival games, tests of strength, and circus-style entertainment and music being showcased at Science World on Thursday, November 7th. Six years ago, the team at Charitable Impact (formerly CHIMP) used their collective imagination to conjure up a unique concept that would unite the tech community in support of charity. Six years later, the resulting ping-pong tournament and party is set to push its fundraising total over the $400,000 mark, with hundreds of people from dozens of companies raring to do battle (and show off their hilarious themed outfits).

For a team to qualify for the tournament it must raise a minimum of $2,000 for its charity of choice via Charitable Impact’s platform. This allows one player to be entered into the singles tournament, and two players into the doubles tournament. Now, according to TechPong’s online “Participants Leaderboard,” 15 companies — Bananatag, Clio and Galvanize among them — have already met or exceeded this fundraising goal. And I have it on good authority that many others, including Colliers International, Microsoft, Samsung, and Vanhack, will soon reveal their qualifying totals. I tip my ping-pong headband to you all!

We’ve saved your company a spot at the ping pong table

Based on the event’s stellar showing in 2018, Charitable Impact raised the fundraising bar to record levels this year. And while TechPong 2019 is well on its way to reaching its $100,000 goal, more companies need to step up to turn imagination into reality this time.

Why get involved? Maybe you’d like to boost company morale by winning access to a Vancouver Whitecaps box suite. Maybe you’d like to add a TechPong trophy to your list of awards. But beyond prizes, prestige, and the outrageous amounts of fun you’ll have — either by playing ping pong or watching the drama unfold amid the carnival atmosphere — there is simply no better form of team-building than to fundraise as a group, and then come together at an event that celebrates the joy of building the brighter future your team imagined. Having fun is one thing, but FEELING GOOD about the impact you’re making while having fun is quite another.

Combine all of this with TechPong’s peerless networking opportunities, and a $2,000 donation to your favourite charity sure sounds like an opportunity you shouldn’t miss. You can get more information and sign up on the TechPong website.

Do I miss the childhood magic of going to the fair? Absolutely. But TechPong has helped keep that magic alive for me, and I hope it will for you, too!.
