Brief Introduction

Carbon surfacing veil is an advanced, non-woven carbon fiber veil incorporation carbon fibers(approx. 1” in length) bonded together in a random fiber matrix.

The non-woven construction allows a resin-rich layer surface that increases chemical stability and reduces the risk of micro-cracks forming in the composite surface.

Main Application

Carbon fiber veil are used on the inner surface of FRP ducting, exhaust stacks, and other gas handling equipment to eliminate the hazards associated with the build-up of static electricity.

It is compatible with all epoxy and polyester resin systems and can be used to provide a smooth covering for bulk carbon composite structures.

Surface Treatment

The carbon veil cloth is not intended for structural use, it has two very important functions. First, it can be placed in the mold directly behind the surface coat to minimize the print-through of the heavier reinforcing cloths applied later. This thin-out coating also permits some surface sanding of finished parts without cutting into the reinforcing fabric below.

The second-largest use is with sandwich cores. A carbon fiber tissue veil mat may be placed directly over the core to maintain the optimum bond-line thickness. The veil is also effective at keeping excess resin from draining into cells of honeycomb cores when a vacuum is not being used.
