Expecting More From You

Expecting More From You

What if I told you, many of your frustrations are self-inflicted? It may seem like a stretch, but consider the perspective of prioritizing certain matters. We feel fulfilled when we manage our focus effectively.

Canadian writer Robin Sharma beautifully expressed this:

‘Stop managing your time, start managing your focus.’

Focus is crucial in our daily lives. Whatever we focus on gains significance and priority. This week’s thought challenges us to focus on our expectations’ nature. Rather than expecting so much from others, expect more from yourself.

Expecting more from yourself means setting high standards and goals for personal growth. It involves pushing beyond your comfort zone, learning continuously, and holding yourself accountable. While expecting more from yourself is empowering, it’s vital to find balance and practice self-compassion. You’ll miss the mark sometimes, and that’s okay. Learn from the experience and count it as a win. As the saying goes, sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.

I say do both!

Expecting more from others can lead to frustration and disappointment when they don’t meet our expectations.

This can strain relationships and create a negative cycle of unmet expectations and resentment. When we habitually expect more from others, it becomes harder to disrupt. That’s why managing expectations is crucial, understanding everyone has limitations and strengths. Cultivating empathy can help navigate these situations with grace.

Think about your expectations of others. After reading this, are there any unreasonable expectations? Shift the focus and expect more from yourself than from others this week.

  • Expect to be more patient, compassionate, joyful despite circumstances;
  • Expect to stick to healthier habits.
  • Expect to be kind even in disagreement, forgive others, and finally...
  • Expect to have self-compassion if you let yourself down.

It's expected to happen.

Love this! ‘Stop managing your time, start managing your focus.’ I’m focusing more on goals and expectations for myself during this week.

Love this topic! I find myself trying to narrow down what adds value and focus on that. It's a real struggle. Sometimes I get lost in the work and forget what I am to focus on.
