Expect the Unexpected
In my state of residence, the government had announced that all exams here on in all educational institutions must be conducted offline.
With offline classes back in full swing, this seems like the next step. But for some reason, it was met with a lot of backlash, especially from the colleges. Why ?
Well I believe there can be two explanations for this.
The first one being the most obvious, that the students have grown accustomed to the form of online evaluation and the benefits that come with it, and do not wish to let go of them.
Secondly, they claim that since their classes were online for a majority of this academic year so far, that their exams should be online as well. They even started citing the challenges they had to face while learning online and expressed that their learning had not been effective and to an extent are fearful if the exams were moved offline.
This is a clear example of how our archaic education system has failed to adapt to the fast moving times. Yes, on one side there might be students who might have become complacent, but we can't neglect the fact that we need to bring about holistic development, to avoid such issues later on.
