2025-2026: Focused Progression

The construction schedule maintains its pace into the following years, with significant completions expected:

  • 2025: Additional 3,301.4 MW will augment the grid, mainly from nuclear (2,800 MW) and LNG (501.4 MW) sources.
  • 2026: It focuses on LNG, with 1,122 MW expected to be operational, further diversifying the energy mix.

Integrating Offshore Wind?

As South Korea aims for an ambitious 14.3 GW offshore wind target by 2030, integrating such a significant amount of renewable energy into the existing power generation mix presents a real puzzle. Expert committees are currently discussing the broader strategy outlined in the 11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand.
