GREENCOAT UK WIND CHANGES DIRECTION WITH FEE STRUCTURE REVAMP
It is being reported by Trustnet that Greencoat UK Wind (a constituent of our Fundamental UK Dividend income Portfolio), a leading infrastructure investment trust, has announced a change to its fee structure to align more closely with shareholder interests. Starting from January 2025, the trust's investment manager, Schroders (also a member of the Fundamental UK Dividend Income portfolio) will base its fees on the lower of the trust's market capitalisation or net asset value (NAV). This move is expected to result in a significant fee reduction, particularly given the current discount to NAV.
The change in fee structure is a positive development for shareholders, as it ensures that the manager's fees are directly linked to the performance of the trust's share price. This increased alignment is likely to boost investor confidence and potentially lead to a narrowing of the discount.
This decision by Greencoat UK Wind sets a precedent for other investment trusts to consider similar fee structures. As investors become increasingly aware of fees and their impact on returns, pressure is mounting on investment companies to adopt more shareholder-friendly fee arrangements.
The move has been welcomed by analysts and investors alike. Deutsche Numis has highlighted the potential benefits of the fee reduction, including an increase in the implied returns from the trust's portfolio.
