Expanding the KNX Ecosystem: The Role of the first KNX IoT Devices

The world of home and building automation is always changing, and KNX is at the forefront of this evolution with the launch of its first IoT devices. This big step reflects the increasing interest from manufacturers and developers across the globe, all drawn to the benefits of expanding the integration possibilities, security, and creative solutions.

?

A Big Leap in Innovation

Introducing the first KNX IoT devices is more than just bringing new products to market. It's about the shared vision of expanding the KNX secure ecosystem of devices and solutions. These first devices are the heart of what KNX IoT technology is all about: connectivity that supports IPv6 with security embedded. With this new addition to the KNX ecosystem,? KNX Members now have more possibilities in offering new devices and solutions for smarter homes and buildings.

Success Through Working Together

With HPE Aruba Instant On and?Nordic Semiconductor ASA? joining as KNX members, the variety and strength of the KNX IoT lineup grow even more. Esteemed KNX members, including Siemens?with their room sensors, Passiv Energie?with heating recovery ventilation systems, and Cascoda?with the Chili2 SMARTRange, are just a few examples of those leading the way with KNX IoT devices, demonstrating the real-world benefits of this technology. On top of this, new solutions are also part of the KNX IoT solutions, like the ones presented by Kumux?with the human-centric lighting service, SimLab with the digital twin property, and ProKNX with its voice control device. A more detailed overview of all currently available KNX IoT products can be found in our?new KNX IoT Devices flyer.

One Secure Ecosystem. One Tool. ETS.

Unlike other technologies that require multiple tools for configuration, ETS stands out as the only tool needed to bring all devices into one installation. Its user-friendly interface ensures seamless interoperability. With the introduction of ETS6.2, KNX IoT devices seamlessly integrate into ETS projects. Thanks to the new features, professionals can effortlessly incorporate additional KNX products, expanding their project possibilities with just one commissioning tool, alongside the already vast selection of 8,000 KNX certified devices.

Strong Partnerships Open New Opportunities

The Internet of Things encompasses more than just technology and devices; it also opens doors to new opportunities. One such example is the collaboration between KNX Association and Thread Group, which introduces exciting possibilities. This partnership combines KNX IoT and Thread technologies within the same smart device housing, enabling wireless IPv6 communication. This innovative approach reinforces KNX's commitment to developing solutions that expand capabilities of smart devices using the KNX IoT technology.

Looking to the Future

The introduction of the first KNX IoT devices and solutions during the past Light + Building event (see full report here) earlier this month was major milestones for KNX. This not only highlights the growth of the KNX ecosystem but also confirms the acceptance of KNX IoT by our KNX Members that have chosen the latest KNX technology extension as part of their newest devices and solutions. ?

As we mark this achievement, we're excited about the forthcoming KNX innovations that will keep driving forward the smart home and building industry.
