Expanded field of application for ROCKWOOL? FirePro? SoftSeal Penetration Seals

Recent testing for ROCKWOOL SoftSeal Penetration Seals has awarded two new UL assessments which have expanded the field of application for use as a penetrations seal within composite wall panels.

Part of the FirePro? range, FirePro SoftSeal System incorporates a product specifically designed to accommodate movement that can occur through building services penetrations which pass through compartment elements.

As there are typically a wide range of services that may need to penetrate a composite panel, there is a requirement to ensure that the fire resistance rating of the panel is re-established once an aperture for services has been created. The use of internal composite wall panels has recently grown as they are capable of achieving high levels of fire and acoustic performance – they are increasingly used within data center's where internal composite walls are present.

ROCKWOOL recently carried out a series of tests in accordance with BS EN 1366-3: 2009 in scenarios where the above-mentioned services pass through specific types of composite panel, using SoftSeal as the primary penetration. These SoftSeal strips are used in combination with the FirePro? Acoustic Intumescent Sealant.

Several other ROCKWOOL FirePro products were used to treat specific service penetration types during testing:

Tests carried out with non-combustible pipes include RockLap H&V Pipe sections.

Tests carried out on CPVC pipework penetrations include FirePro High Expansion Intumescent Sealant.

Tests with combustible pipe penetrations have been carried out with FirePro Insulated Fire Sleeves.

The annular spaces surrounding cable trays/ladders have been filled with RWA45.

The annular spaces surrounding cable bunches have been treated with FirePro High Expansion Intumescent Sealant.

Conclusively, a fire resistance of up to EI120 can be achieved subject to the specific application. The full field of application can be found in UL assessments UL 47901145104 / UL 4790921776. Details of both assessments are accessible via the SoftSeal Penetration Seals datasheet.
