You’ve been dreaming for a while of those balmy nights in Mauritius where you can almost feel the undulating waves caress your face as you dine on Lobster Thermidor with a rare 1996 Rose Gold vintage of Dom Perignon. Your nearest companion besides your beloved is the cliffs of Souillac and the sweeping sea. And while you hold on to that dream, here are a few more – beckoning for your return to travel in the near future.
5.8 Undersea Restaurant, Maldives
This underwater dining venue is sure to impress between its all-glass restaurant and incredible cuisine. Enjoy a seven-course meal 19 feet below the Indian Ocean. Located at the luxury adults-only Hurawalhi Island Resort in the Maldives, the venue only seats up to 10 couples.
Dinner in the Sky KL, Malaysia
While Dinner in the Sky is a Belgian-based concept, the organizers have taken their show on the road with assorted locations throughout the world. Perhaps one of the most buzzworthy locales is in Kuala Lumpur. Much like boarding a plane, guests “check in†an hour ahead of their flight. Once diners are strapped into their seats which is welded to a table attached to a crane, visitors can transported 100 feet in the air with 360-degree panoramic views of the city. Expect equally dazzling food hosted by Michelin-star chefs such as Pierre Gagnaire and Jeff Ramsey.
The Rock, Zanzibar
Perched on a rock in the Indian Ocean in East Africa, this 12 table oasis in Zanzibar appears to be its own tiny island during high tide at which time a wooden boat takes you to the venue. Expect plenty of divine seafood and white rum.
Under, Norway
Located on Norway’s southern tip, this underwater restaurant seats 40 people. Somewhat of an odd structure, the “sunken†concrete venue, seems to be half-submerged 18 feet down in water. Guests can indulge in a 18-course tasting menu.
The Treepod Restaurant, Thailand
At the Soneva Kiri Resort on the island of Koh Kood, it’s the wait staff that wears harnesses. Diners walk through a beachside rainforest where they then reach an egg-shaped structure or pod. Built of rattan and bamboo, guests are then hoisted 3 feet in the air to partake an ethereal rainforest experience.
Grotta Palazzese Restaurant, Italy
This magical restaurant which is carved out of a limestone cave juts out 82 feet above the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Puglia in the tiny town of Polignano-a-Mare. Perhaps one of the most spectacular and romantic places in the world, the site was once used as a gathering spot in the 18th century.
