Exit of ‘Vibhishana’ from Lanka is a sad story of great loyal employee


Can any significant reference or inference be taken/made from the exit of ‘Vibhishana’ from the court or organization of King Ravana in terms of managing loyal employees?

Yes, induction of ‘Vibhishana’ in the army of Lord Ram was actually the game changer and it was only the inputs or secrets shared by ‘Vibhishana’ that made victory of Lord Ram possible.

Vibhishana was equally capable, mighty, knowledgeable but very pious and gentlemen in the organization of king Ravana and here only, he was differentiating with other demons otherwise he was also bestowed with the boons of Lord Brahma and he had chosen to be associated with the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

King Ravana and its organization ‘Lanka’ was the most successful organization of that time and almost it was invincible by anyone including Gods. All kind of luxury, comforts were available to its citizens or employees and profits were shared or distributed with everyone and probably that was the reason, Lanka was made of ‘Gold’ most precious metals of that time.

1.      Misalignment of Values

Though ‘Vibhishana’ was allowed to live its values in the organization and even was heard at times in the court by King Ravana ( in the instance of not killing lord Hanuman ) but ultimately misalignment on the values became the cause of rift between Ravana and Vibhishana resulting exit of Vibhishana and finally destruction of kingdom Lanka.

Vibhishana had expressed his discontentment to Lord Hanuman openly over values in following quatrain:-

Even in good faith & in the larger interest of kingdom Lanka, Vibhishana advises his brother to return goddess Sita and make truce with Lord Ram but it came or appeared as a praise of enemy.

Though Vibhishana was a real well wisher of his brother and natives of Lanka but his explanation of the situation came out from his passion towards his values i.e. getting closeness to Lord Ram so resulted in the magnification of Lord Ram at least Ravana took it like this.

So, as an organization, we have to ensure employees are aligned to the core values of the organization even most loyal employees, coming from blood relations of the promoter or top management have to be in sync.

2.      Freedom of thought and opportunity to be listened

Though everyone appreciates the fact that his voice is being heard and given an ear in the organization but it is very important for high performer loyal employees as this gives them a feeling of connect to the top management and realization that they are part of the decision making process resulting flow of ownership among them and they are ready to sacrifice everything for the organization.

Till Vibhishana was having an environment, where his opinions were taken in to consideration for any critical decision, he was associated with King Ravana, but when he was neglected, humiliated and charged with inclination of softness towards enemy, he left Lanka for pursuing his dream career.

In most of the organization, it can be observed that advises of loyal employees are not given proper heed and most of the times, it become practice and their thought process are being treated like mundane, routine, having no worth, impelling them to start thinking for new organization and smart organization or job hunters poach these passive job seekers.


3.      Treating loyal employees granted for the growth

The biggest mistakes, organizations make with loyal employees lie in their silly assumptions about their worth in the system. Organizations start taking them granted and feel, they have no market value and their entire existence depends on the care shown by the organization and whatever salary, benefits, career opportunity are offered to them is more than their contributions. Their aspirations for dream career are shattered and all growth paths are offered to new comers by neglecting the long service contribution and immense potential of loyal employees.

Vibhishana was also treated like petty creatures who was getting nurtured and living on the grace of King Ravana.
