This was the state of my client, Singaporean Franklin Wu's company, before we began our journey together. Articulate involved me facilitating a two-day workshop with his leadership team and high potentials. Many businesses make the mistake of crafting a strategy and list of KPIs behind closed doors and then telling their staff what these are. This doesn't create ownership, engagement, or accountability.

When a team picks its own performance goals in the form of a balanced scorecard based on rigorous discussion and consideration of the business's competitive position, it creates understanding, buy-in, and accountability. These team-selected KPIs can easily be cascaded down to individual performance plans, and they will embrace them because they chose them.

The Amplify stage involves building rhythm, cadence, and a quest for continuous improvement in the business with monthly strategy reviews to adjust actions to address the prevailing headwinds. We also embed one of our 7 Pillars of Execution Excellence every three months into the business until it becomes a habit and just the way we work. This lifts the capability of the whole organisation.
