Exit Interview by Patrick Donegan #147

For some time, I’ve been looking for one “source” that curates modern takes on HR Tech, perspectives from the people who build it, and its impact on enterprise — something that’s tailor-made by professionals for decision-makers.

I never found it — so I decided to build it.

Every week, I’ll be sharing fresh insights on tech platforms, design, data, and the future of work — straight to your inbox.

My Thoughts

You all know I'm a big champion of remote work ???— but that doesn't mean you won't see me doing everything in my power to meet with employees no matter where they are. Whether by plane ??, train ??, automobile ??, or, if necessary, all three, I believe in the power of connection.

Getting together with employees and sharing the same physical space, even momentarily, can ignite creativity ??, foster stronger bonds ??, and build a sense of communal mission ??. It's about showing up — literally — and demonstrating that every member of our team, regardless of their location, is vital to our collective success.

This commitment to personal engagement isn't just about maintaining visibility ???; it's about embracing the human element of business. Each in-person interaction is an opportunity to understand our team's challenges and triumphs firsthand, to celebrate their achievements, and to empathize with their struggles. These moments help us stay aligned with our core values and remind us that behind every screen, there's a person whose contributions matter. ??

So, while I champion the efficiency and flexibility of remote work, I also advocate for the irreplaceable impact of being physically present. It's a balance that requires effort, but it's worth it. Because when we're intentional about taking the time to connect in person, we work not just as a team, but as a community driven by shared goals and mutual respect. ??

The Changing Workplace

With 8 out of 10 employees at risk of burnout , the traditional career ladder is losing its appeal among Gen Z and millennials. This workforce shift demands that HR leaders rethink engagement strategies, prioritizing well-being and personal development alongside professional growth. By adopting enquiry-led leadership , companies can cultivate a supportive environment where autonomy and creativity thrive, transforming challenges into opportunities for innovation and mental health support.

All About Data

Morgan Stanley at Work ?recently released its fourth annual State of the Workplace Financial Benefits Study, revealing some intriguing insights on the impact of workplace financial benefits. The study underscores how vital these benefits are in supporting employees through challenging economic times and boosting company retention rates. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting stats from the report:

  • Financial Struggles:?91%?of HR leaders recognize their employees are experiencing financial difficulties, with 46%?of employees facing significant crises last year.
  • Impact on Retention: 87%?of HR leaders see comprehensive financial benefits as crucial for keeping employees, with 71%?of employees more likely to stay if their financial needs are met.
  • Awareness Gap:?Despite the available benefits, 32%?of employees haven't thought to seek help from their employers, and 85% believe companies could improve how they communicate these benefits.

What does this mean for business leaders? It highlights the critical need for organizations to not only offer but also proactively communicate and educate about the financial benefits available.
