One can easily spot two types of people at work place, one in survival & other in explorative state. A person in survival state means insecure, minimalist actions, decisions that are required for person to just keep afloat to survive, zero risk taker, a kind of peaceful co-existence mode, neither, I disturb you nor you disturb me, just adding years to life.
Explorative state means constant action, clear decisions, new exploration, challenge & competitive spirit to achieve more.
People decide to be in a state basis their upbringing, mental makeup, industry standing, capabilities & future life objective. Subconsciously, this becomes their way of life. It has nothing to do with age, even young professionals fall into survival state.
Explorative people add to existence speed which is of competitive advantage for any organization. Slow organization shall become extinct pretty soon. Survivors just see that time lapses with minimal actions without worrying about outside environment.
Sometimes even a highly qualified young person falls in survival state due to early position achievement Vis a Vis experience & becomes unwilling to take risks. People in last leg of their work life generally get into this Survivor state. Such people in higher positions damage organizations more than people at other levels.
It is up-to leaders & promoters to know which of their employee fall in which state and take necessary steps to safe guard their organization from becoming slow & gradually fall behind. You stop pedaling and you fall down.

7 å¹´Though great article, I personally feel 'speed' as a word in itself is a 'relative' term with observer as a reference! Further ''speed'' is only one metric among several others that is needed to be successful..... also success means differently to different people / organization. Also, if an organization or any team comprise of ALL those who are so-called speedsters then somebody is needed to provide direction, co-ordination, etc.... Also, this world is a perfect combination of all kinds of people..... with everyone comprises of something special....that needs to be understood at the very start... managers job is to motivate and extract maximum from their people and know what has caused to such insecurity, if it does exist! And what is the statistics on these two categories....At the core of such issues, there are several dimensions to such issues which needs to be considered like should management has short term approach or a long term... thanks, regards
