On Exhibit: Women on the Wall

After months of planning, Queensland College of Arts at Griffith University is unveiling its exhibit Designing Culture at the university’s POP Gallery at 381 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. This exhibition, running from 25 May to 5 June, celebrates diverse approaches to design research and practice that embrace design’s dynamic potential and interpretation. There are many hands-on exhibits that key into digital music and machine/ human interaction as well as explorations about how designers are changing our daily lives through building better products without exhausting our rapidly disappearing natural resources. Our rapidly changing urban spaces are also scrutinised, from the results of rapid gentrification to public art. Also featured, a sneak preview of, “Women on the Wall,” a soon-to-be-published book authored by myself and writer Robert H. Mann. Our book assembles examples of wall art featuring women subjects from around the world and interviews with women wall artists who are breaking through sexual stereotypes with their unique public visions. Please drop by. You won’t be disappointed by what you see and you will certainly expand your ideas about what designers do to make our lives more engaging.
