Exemplary leadership... an outlook

It is said that… a great leader is certainly in charge, not everyone who is in charge is a great leader. This is because some leaders have an inherent aptitude for leadership; others pick up on it through experience. Same holds true for skills as well.

With this thought I did a poll to understand what are the best practices used by exemplary leaders.

Basis above polls which is skewed towards “Lead by example” and “Enabling others”, I will be covering these two first.

1. Lead by example:- An exemplary leader sets a behavioral standard to be shared throughout the organization and then epitomizes them. There is a perceived requirement to establish a standard; once standard is established, deliver benefit through it.

By following this approach, the ‘leader’ sets an example to the organization. Below mentioned are the behaviors to be demonstrated.

2. Enabling Others:- An exemplary leader does not try and do everything themselves. They usually enables through a series of ingredients such as processes, tools, delegation, trust, communication, and collaboration. They foster collaboration by building trust and facilitating relationships.

This is one of the most important acts of leadership, to enable people to act by strengthening them through self-determination and developing competence. Below mentioned are the behaviors to be demonstrated in order to provide the right environment.

3. Challenge the Status quo:- This requires analysis and questioning. It carries risk and learning from mistakes but an exemplary leader seeks “challenging the status quo” for the business, process, and concept to develop and improve.?An exemplary leader avail the opportunities by seizing the initiative and by looking outward for innovative ways to improve.

This process typically reviews processes and systems, identifying those that don’t work or could be improved.?

4. Encouraging Heart:- An exemplary leader knows that encouragement can be a key method of achieving team motivation. As a leader, it is of paramount importance that they must recognize contributions and praise the ones who are putting effort.
