?? Business for a Better Tomorrow reaction to the blocking of the Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence directive #CSDDD at COREPER:
On 28 February, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU announced the blocking of the #CSDDD at COREPER.
We deeply regret this decision and the non-adoption of an essential text of the Green Deal. This is a missed opportunity to regulate the negative impacts of companies in their value chains on the environment and human rights and to put an end to the fragmentation of due diligence obligations in Europe and around the world, which is often a source of legal uncertainty for companies.
The blocking of the #CSDDD is therefore a blow to responsible companies, which will have to continue to endure this situation and conditions of unfair competition.
In this respect, we reiterate our call to the 27 Member States governments to put an end to the blocking of the #CSDDD and thus provide companies with legal certainty and fair competitive conditions.
???? #PressRelease - #CSDDD: Undermining the compromise would be a strategic mistake for the European economy and would create legal uncertainty
Facing the uncertainty of the upcoming Council of the #EU vote on the Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence directive scheduled for next Friday, the 17 members of the?Business for a Better Tomorrow coalition are deeply concerned that several Member States are currently considering to abstain or vote against the compromise text.
We therefore call on members of the Council of the EU to honor this democratically achieved compromise and thus provide companies with legal certainty and, above all, fair competitive conditions, a demand widely supported in recent times that will strengthen the European market and accelerate its sustainable development. ??
