Executive Job Seekers: Are you Taking Responsibility for Your Job Search? Your Friends and Family are Not Your Best Advisors!
Bernard Pearce
THE EXECUTIVE CAREER TRANSITION SPECIALIST ? Your essential bridge to realising your true value; the vital missing link in your search to secure the right job.
LinkedIn posts consistently complain about the poor performance of Recruiters.
Are you, like most Executives, believing your extended job search time is directly the fault of the recruitment industry’s failure to deliver?
Is that fair? Is it right?
Whenever executives vent their frustrations on how long it takes to secure a new job, it’s important to remember the natural desire to replace missing income in the shortest time.
If that doesn’t happen, it’s only natural to ask why? And similarly look to see what’s wrong.
That in turn drives thoughts between what’s wrong with me and what’s wrong with the job market?
So, what could be wrong with you??
The answer quite simply is nothing.
You are neither too old, or too young; have too much experience, or too little; have no qualifications, or not enough; have been in one job too long, or too many jobs. You are not the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ gender; or from the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ cultural background.?

But there are probably some things that could be improved.
1.???? Your CV is your marketing brochure, with a first life of only seconds. Your friends and family will reassure you it’s good, but if it’s that good why is it not working? Frankly it’s not working because it’s unlikely to say anything worthwhile about you.
2.???? You’re not job searching correctly. Most executives focus most of their time, effort, and energies into responding to and applying for advertised vacancies. You might believe you could do them, but if it’s not working, clearly others don’t think the same.?
3.???? You’re not preparing for, or performing well enough, at job interviews. Preparations are likely insufficient and focusing more on persuading ‘them’ you could be a good performer in the role. If others don’t think the same, nothing will change until you do.?
How Can You Change Things?
Job searching is not straightforward. If your friends and family have never been taught how to job search correctly, how can they in turn teach you??
There are some key things you must understand and accept.
1.???? Creating a powerful bespoke CV that does you justice, and presents your value, will not be achieved by completing a standard internet-found template.
2.???? Focusing your job search solely on advertised vacancies, will only put you amongst the maximum competition and hostage to automated filtering processes.
3.???? Preparing for interviews by focusing on tough questions that don’t get asked before they’ve already formed their opinion, means you will lose the vital first 4 minutes.

There is no point in blaming Recruiters for your demise if your own preparations aren’t good.
If you are happy to job search like most others, don’t blame recruiters – it’s not their fault if can’t be bothered to do the basics beforehand.
Have you ever enlisted expert help - to ensure you are better prepared, better presented and perform better than others??
If you have never taken professional advice on how to job search, how can you expect to do it correctly?
It’s your future. Does that matter to you?
Don’t let more time go by with no change, no progress, and no hope.
If now isn’t the right time – when will be?
