EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: IS THIS WHY YOUR JOB APPLICATIONS ARE FAILING?
Bernard Pearce
THE EXECUTIVE CAREER TRANSITION SPECIALIST ? Your essential bridge to realising your true value; the vital missing link in your search to secure the right job.
How often have you changed jobs, either internally or externally, and then found the job is not as presented and the expectations of you are different??
How much of your current or last job description accurately describes your job??
I don’t mean the job title, reporting lines, or generic overall responsibilities, but what the real job is, its challenges to overcome, and the measurable impact you are expected to deliver.?
THE HUGE MISCONCEPTIONS WITH JOB DESCRIPTIONS?
Most job descriptions are written/compiled by HR, in an attempt to provide a consistent overview of all jobs.?
They form part of a job evaluation process to establish parity, differentiation and salaries.?
Inevitably though, the result is a series of bland, similarly constructed documents covering the positioning, reporting lines and high-level span of responsibilities.?
They don’t describe the job itself or the expected deliverables. You are left to discover those after starting in the role!?
Key objectives are typically developed ad-hoc to fit changing commercial environments.???
When was yours written, or last reviewed? Does it genuinely describe or reflect what you do??
BUT THESE FORM THE BASIS OF RECRUITMENT JOB SPECIFICATIONS!?

LOOK AT THE SPECIFICATIONS OF ADVERTISED JOBS YOU ARE APPLYING FOR?
They will reflect the job description, probably written years before, and perhaps include the desired qualifications or expected competencies and personal values they seek.?
Job specifications don’t clarify the challenges to overcome, or the expected outcomes, and inevitably won’t highlight the key value-added strengths needed to deliver those outcomes.?
Key value-adding strengths are the unique specialist attributes you bring to the party, not the list of ‘competencies’ anyone in your profession or sector could claim.?
It’s also likely that, in an attempt to make the job look more interesting, original and modern, the job specification may have been enhanced by amalgamating information from similar jobs using AI, in the misplaced belief that AI – or their users - know more about the job!
Therefore, whilst job descriptions and recruitment specifications lack validity, organisations start their executive recruitment plans without clarity of outcomes, or the key value-adding strengths needed.?
Instead, their advertisements list pedestrian ‘competencies’ almost anyone could match!?
BUT THESE ARE THE SPECIFICATIONS YOU’RE TRYING TO MATCH!?
You are applying for jobs where the advertised role is based on a flawed and incomplete base document that could have been enhanced by copying other adverts and then adjusted and manipulated by AI.?
You are also trying to match organisational needs and expectations that have never been correctly determined, and worse still, probably haven’t even been agreed upon internally.?
You attempt to match their list of ‘competencies’ – and sometimes might wrongly believe that AI will produce a better-quality CV / Resume and application for you.?
Then you face the frustration of being filtered out by a process that selects a shortlist of candidates with less experience or justifiable achievements than you know you have.?
And even if you are successful, you then face the prospect that the job isn’t ‘as advertised’ or the expectations of you challenge your values and compromise your ideal working style!?
CAN YOU AFFORD TO LET THIS CONTINUE WITHOUT GETTING PROFESSIONAL HELP??
I know you think it’s easy and believe you can do it yourself; and that your technical expertise and the reported power of AI will short-circuit the process for you.?
It might help you a little, but AI is also notorious for sneaking in inaccuracies to make you a good match.?
Then, even if you manage to secure an interview, you face challenging questions that expose you for not being as good as the person you presented!
ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THE RISK TO YOUR INTEGRITY?
Some people willingly and blindly believe technology can produce more about them than they know themselves. They think it makes them look more ‘modern’ and current.
They then risk everything in longer search times, more interview rejections without reason and the demoralising challenge to their self-esteem and self-confidence.?
IT’S YOUR FUTURE – DOES IT MATTER TO YOU??
If now isn’t the right time – how much worse must things get before it is?
If now is the right time, we ought to speak soon.?

1 天前Been there and got the rejection emails to prove it! Applied for about 50 jobs when I first tried leaving the corporate world - complete waste of time because I was just copying and pasting the same generic rubbish. Ended up completely changing my approach and actually landing something decent. The AI job description bit makes me wonder how many of my applications were binned before a human even saw them!
