EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: STOP IMPOSTER SYNDROME FROM STALLING YOUR PROGRESS, OR DESTROYING YOUR FUTURE

EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: STOP IMPOSTER SYNDROME FROM STALLING YOUR PROGRESS, OR DESTROYING YOUR FUTURE

It’s not uncommon for those recently appointed into more senior roles, or finding themselves in new roles following a reorganisation, to question whether they are up to the job.

Even if you appear to be bursting with confidence on the surface, you could still be suffering pangs of inadequacy internally.

It’s not limited to either men or women; to the highly qualified or those who aren’t; and it’s not related to either age, sector, functional discipline or seniority.?

SO, WHAT IS IMPOSTER SYNDROME??

Simply, it’s a condition where you might doubt your capabilities or achievements; and feel inadequate in your new role, or fear being exposed as a fraud.?

DO YOU HAVE A SENSE OF IT?

  • Do you ever feel anxious about your current role, the challenges it brings, your relationships with your peers or subordinates and whether you can deliver as hoped?
  • Do you find yourself comparing your current approach, performance or progress with how others might have dealt with them? Would others have been better than you? ?
  • Do you find yourself wondering, questioning – even doubting - your previously assumed or recognised capabilities, commercial intuition or leadership qualities?
  • In your quiet moments, what are you saying to yourself? Are those words or thoughts an example of confidence, or potential inadequacy?

HOW MIGHT THIS AFFECT YOU?

You might question whether you are sufficiently talented or deserve the role you have been appointed to.

It could be a key factor that could cause failure or an alarming brake on your career potential.?

Trying to overcome it can often manifest in you seeking to drive even more challenging or over-ambitious goals, which might ultimately lead to burnout.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

The therapy world positions it as a psychological condition, but my experience in helping executives overcome it has revealed a much more fundamental phenomenon.

Despite asserting to the contrary, most executives cannot articulate why they deserve the salary they currently receive or have previously earned – let alone the one they aspire to!?

That stems from not being clear on what makes them exceptional.?

And that is emphasised by an extraordinary belief that their value lies in their previous job descriptions or organisations, rather than what they’ve achieved and what makes them different or better. ??

My unique way of working with executives will uncover your qualities and rebuild or restore your self-confidence, self-esteem and self-respect.?

It will help get your career back on track, overcome your previous limiting beliefs and return you to feeling significant.

DON’T DECEIVE YOURSELF

Self-doubt can eat away at your very core.?

Hiding from it serves no one, least of all you and everything important to you.

If you think you can overcome it by trying harder, you probably won’t.?

If you’re worried about it hindering you or your future, it’s time to do something about it before it does.?

IT’S YOUR FUTURE – DOES IT MATTER TO YOU??

If now isn’t the right time – how much worse must things get before it is??

If now is the right time, we ought to speak soon.?
