Executive Job Seekers: Relaxing after Christmas, or Planning to Make 2024 Yours?

Nobody would blame you for stepping back from job searching over the Christmas/New Year break. After all, most people have stepped back from their work too!

The job-searching pressures you may have experienced, the frustrations of slow, poor or delayed decision-making, can be quite depressing and taking a break from it can be a relief.

But that doesn’t mean you have to, or should, avoid any thought about the challenge for the future.

In just a few days now, the job market will re-open, many new vacancies will be advertised, and the job search world will back and running in top gear before we know it!

Last week, we looked at the importance of clarifying your search strategy.?

As the age-old line says – if you don’t know what you’re looking for, how will you know you’ve found it??

And if you can’t describe what you’re looking for, how can you ever hope of finding it and how can anyone ever help you in your search??

Consider the conversation most people have:

Q.? So Mr/Ms Executive, you’re looking for a new role?

A.? Yes I am.

Q.? What are you looking for?

A.? A new job where my skills and experience can be fully utilised.

Q.? Yes, but can you describe your ideal role?

A.? No, but I’ll recognise it when I see it.

Does that sound like you? You hope not? So do I.?

There is, without question however, a mis-informed belief that to describe a perfect outcome will limit the broader range of potential roles you might be considered for.

It actually means you’re unlikely to be considered for your perfect role.

How do you announce your commercial decisions?

Imagine your shareholders hearing you state your strategic objectives as being to increase turnover by something around £5m, and/or £500K, and/or £50K.

You would be a laughingstock.

So surely, it’s better to be able to state your case and clarify your objectives? Only then can you correctly harness the power of those who could help you.

Imagine going to an Estate Agent in search for a new home and telling them you’d be willing to look in Aberdeen, Armagh, Aberystwyth and Andover! They would bury their heads in despair!

If you genuinely expect 2024 to be different and better than the last quarter of 2023, then you must approach it differently!

This is your time to get your thoughts clear.

Don’t walk away from it like most others do.

Have you ever enlisted expert help - to ensure you are better prepared, better presented and perform better than others?

If you have never taken professional advice on how to job search, how can you expect to do it correctly?

It’s your future. Does that matter to you?

Don’t let more time go by with no change, no progress, and no hope.

If now isn’t the right time – when will be??
