EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: HOW MUCH ARE YOU PREPARING TO GIVE UP?

EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: HOW MUCH ARE YOU PREPARING TO GIVE UP?

Would you happily walk away from £1m over the next 25 years??

You might have already inadvertently taken a step in that direction!?

The shock of job loss, and the need to recover vital income, can spark survival behaviours at a time when your confidence and self-esteem might also be seriously damaged.?

You know what I mean, don’t you??

Your need to recover lost income might feel like a looming cliff edge. You may consider that any job is better than no job and even backward steps might look attractive.?

If you’ve already re-evaluated your financial situation, you might have worked out you can manage on less than you earned before.

BUT THEN YOU MIGHT RISK YOUR LONGER-TERM INCOME

DON’T LET LOWER-INCOME NEEDS COMPROMISE OR LOWER YOUR VALUE?

I recently spoke to 2 executives who already recognise the longer-term implications of settling for less than they are worth.?

One had lowered their sights and perceived value – by c.£40k per year, based on what was needed to cover current overheads. We looked at what that might mean if extended over the 25 years up to retirement.?

It amounted to a potential loss of £1 million!?

Another had already settled for £25k less than the previous job paid – and we projected that forward over their next expected 16 years in work.?

A potential loss of £400k!?

BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT FOR YOU!?

Whilst there can never be a guarantee of recovering the total amount, aiming for much less risks the danger of hitting that low target.?

Your job loss could have forced an understandable reaction to get your CV updated and out there quickly.?

But if that wasn’t done correctly you are at risk of extending your search time and increasing the number of rejections you get.?

You might have utilised AI to create a new CV / Resume, or one that aligns you with any advertised job specifications which in turn might have been created using AI.?

But let’s be clear, AI can only know what you feed it, and if you can’t feed in what makes you the unique executive you are, how can you expect to stand out?

AI can only reflect your job titles and companies – and they won’t make you look different or better than anyone else.?

THERE IS NO COMMERCIAL VALUE IN YOU BEING JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

I’m frustrated that most executives can’t articulate their true value.?

Worse still, they can neither justify their current or last salary, nor the salary they aspire.?

Consequently, their laurels rest on hoping others will find value in them.?

Is that you??

CAN YOU CORRECT THAT YOURSELF??

I know you think it’s easy and believe you can do it yourself; and that your technical expertise and the reported power of AI will short-circuit the process for you.?

It might help you a little, but AI is also notorious for sneaking in inaccuracies to make you a good match.?

Then, even if you manage to secure an interview, you face the challenging questions that might expose you as not being the person you presented!?

ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THE RISK TO YOUR INTEGRITY??

Some people willingly and blindly believe technology can produce more about them than they know themselves. They think it makes them look more ‘modern’ and current.?

They then risk everything in longer search times, more interview rejections without reason and the demoralising challenge to their self-esteem and self-confidence.?

IT’S YOUR FUTURE – DOES IT MATTER TO YOU?

If now isn’t the right time – how much worse must things get before it is??

If now is the right time, we ought to speak soon.?

Been there with the whole career crossroads thing. When I left the corporate world for Vietnam, everyone thought I was mental to walk away from that salary. Turned out starting fresh was the best move I ever made - knowing your true value is worth more than any paycheck.
