I recently spoke to some fractionals, interims, and contractors who, interestingly, have been looking for their next assignments for some time.?

The commonly accepted beliefs among them were:

1.???? It is normal to have some (long?) gaps between assignments – but each ‘gap’ month can cost you £10K, £15K, or even £25K.

2.???? Assignments are becoming harder to find and secure, with competition increasing and organisations expecting more for less.

3.???? Assignment day rates and fees are being driven down, clearly reflecting the numbers looking and preparing to accept lower fees to get the work.

4.???? They still believe their next assignment will come through their network who fully understand what they can do.

5.???? They are still fully confident that their CV will open other new doors for them.?

HOWEVER:?

None could genuinely articulate what made them stand out from others seeking similar assignments.?

None could articulate where they brought specific value.?

And none could justify the level of fees they sought.?
