Executive Challenges in 2023

Given our extensive background in executive search, people frequently question us about the state of the industry right now and what trends we anticipate in the future.

The difficult operating and commercial environment in 2023 will result in higher performance expectations for senior leadership due to factors like a rapidly rising cost base and lingering supply chain difficulties.

The emphasis on executive performance will also alter if recessions do occur, according to other partners, from sales-led growth to a wider range of priorities, including change management, responsible financial management, the best use of resources, and, of course, inspirational leadership.

Other challenges that would be present in the executive search in 2023:

• ?Clients' desire and openness to work remotely will persist. Yet despite this, clients are displaying a growing interest in scheduling face-to-face meetings once more, particularly with candidates, and this trend will continue through 2023.
• The focus on developing diverse candidates will continue to gain traction and is now a routine KPI for the majority of hiring teams.
• Through the use of digital tools, clients are still investigating ways to find talent more quickly and efficiently.

Our advice: Announcing too many year-long goals at once is a formula for failure in the corporate world of today. The odds are against us. If we get this wrong, we risk failing to achieve important objectives. In a short-term environment, the new trend is three-month goal-setting. Three months gives you enough time to iterate and pivot.

And keep in mind that objectives should include personal development targets for employees if you want to avoid the retention issues that many firms may still experience this year.
