While sitting alone in afternoon on a rainy day, I was looking at my long to-do list at home. I was happy, as a family our hit ratio was getting better. You might have experienced the frustration as well when you have a lot to do, here I am not referring to work-related action items, and very little gets done. This was a perennial problem.
How do we solve it? What needs to change? How and what to prioritize? Over a period of time, I think we got to the right solution, however, we might have to change again with the entry of new items. Anyways, this short blog is to share with you, our answers to these questions.
- Ruthless Focus: First, we put together all the items that we could think of. That's how we started before. Now, this has to change, so I looked at a few topics that are critical and need focus.
- Bits and pieces: The next step is to break down each topic into smaller action items. Here it is important to note that you have to be very specific, as that makes it easier to finish and also a sense of achievement fills your every step.
- Accountability: Then we shared the topics amongst us and told ourselves, "you take the decisions and be responsible". It was critical to get the momentum and thus to avoid too many discussions. Lastly, the above steps need monitoring at regular intervals to make sure that you are on track.
I am hopeful that these steps will be useful to you as well. If you do it differently, please share. It would be great to learn a new way.
Prioritize it. Plan it. Execute it.
