Execution: Feeling Fear
Fear is vital response to danger – if we did not feel it, we could not protect ourselves from legitimate threats
Depending on intensity, fear is classified as below:
- Apprehension – mild fear
- Fear
- Terror – intense fear
Fear is experienced when there is a cause for change in metabolic and organ functions – which in extreme cases of fear (terror) can lead to a freeze response or paralysis. The same cause will lead you to experience the following emotions:
- submission, when you are experiencing fear from someone you are attracted to – when you are experiencing submission, you will not experience contempt
- awe, when you are experiencing fear as well as surprise at the same time – when you are in awe, you'll not experience emotion of aggressiveness
- guilt, when you are experiencing fear together with humor – when you are suffering from sense of guilt, you will not experience jealousy. Guilt is an emotional experience that occurs when you believe you have compromised standards and bear significant responsibility for that violation. Guilt and shame maintain beneficial relationships — which would lead to a predominant feeling of fear, instead of joy or disgust.
- despair, when you are in a state of fear when sad – when you are in despair, you will not enjoy pride
- anxiety, when you are experiencing fear while anticipating something – when you are anxious, you cannot have an experience of outrage
- shame, when you are experiencing fear in disgust – when you are experiencing shame, you will not be able to dominate. Shame is a painful social emotion resulting from comparison of actions standards. Charles Darwin theorised that shame is expressed by blushing, confusion of mind, downward cast eyes, slack posture, and lowered head. Sometimes, intense shame manifests with low blood pressure and perspiration. Shame can also result in crying. When you experience shame together with guilt, you are likely to feel fear more than disgust or joy.
