GOD’S ANSWERS TO MAN’S EXCUSES FOR NOT KEEPING HIS SEVENTH DAY SABBATH HOLY
Excuse 1. It is inconvenient to keep the seventh day Sabbath (Saturday) Holy.
Answer. (Matthew 16:24) “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Chap 10:38; Luke 9:23; 14:27
Excuse 2. I have a family to support; it will interfere with my business.
Answer. (Mathew 16:25-26) “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Chap 6:24, 31-33; Luke 12:15-37; 1 Timothy 4:8; Psalm 37:3; Isaiah 65:13-14
Excuse 3. Most Christians go to church to worship on Sunday, the first day of the week.
Answer. (Mathew 7:13-14) “Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because, strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Proverbs 11:21; 16:5
Excuse 4. Many learned men teach that it is right to worship on Sunday.
Answer. (Hosea 10:13) “Ye have ploughed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.” 1 Corinthians 1:25-27; Revelation 18:23
Excuse 5. We are unlearned, and must look to our church leaders for instruction.
Answer. (Proverbs 19:27) “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.” 2 Timothy 3:1-7
Excuse 6. It has always been a family tradition to go to church on Sunday.
Answer. (Mathew 5:13) "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?" (Mark 7:9) "Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition." (Colossians 5:8) "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
Excuse 7. I was taught that Sunday is the Lord's day.
Answer. (Mathew 12:8) "For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day." (Mark 2:28) "therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." (Luke 6:5) "And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." The seventh day Sabbath is the Lord's Day, not Sunday, the first day of the week.
Excuse 8. The seventh day Sabbath is only for the Jews to keep holy.
Answer. (Genesis 2:1-3) "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." God established the seventh day Sabbath on the last day of creation week, way before a Jew was ever born.
Excuse 9. If I keep the seventh day Sabbath holy instead of Sunday It will cause trouble and division.
Answer. (Luke 12:51-52) “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division. For from henceforth there shall be five, in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.” Verse 49; Matthew 10:34-37; John 15:19; 17:14; 1 Kings 18:17-18
Excuse 10. I should lose my influence and bring reproach if I keep the seventh day Sabbath holy.
Answer. (Matthew 5:11-12) “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” Luke 6:22-23, 26; 1 John 4:5
Excuse 11. It makes no difference what day I keep, if I keep it right.
Answer. (Exodus 20:9-10) “Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work.” Matthew 15:3, 9 To keep any day right is to keep it as God’s law directs; otherwise His law is not right. To keep every day right is to work on the first six and rest on His seventh day Sabbath.
Excuse 12. I am afraid of new doctrines.
Answer. (Exodus 20:11) “In six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Genesis 2, 3 This doctrine was established at the beginning when the Lord created everything.
Excuse 13. I do not believe these old laws are binding.
Answer. (Jeremiah 6:16) “Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” Chap 18:15
(Isaiah 58:12-14) "And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it." There has been a breach made in God's Ten Commandments, His fourth commandment in which MOST have forgotten. God prophesied that MOST would forget His Holy Sabbath day, that's why the fourth commandment is the ONLY commandment out of the ten that starts with the word "REMEMBER". It is our duty as true born again Christians to be "repairers of the breach", to share the truth regarding God's seventh day Sabbath with the whole world.
Excuse 14. The apostle teaches that old things are passed away.
Answer. (2 Corinthians 5:17) “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.” The “old man” of sin must pass away, not the law. Then the man becomes a new creature in Christ.
Excuse 15. The law (Ten Commandments) were abolished at the cross.
Answer. (Matthew 5:17-19) "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Has heaven and earth passed away?
(Colossians 2:13-15) "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Ordinances are referring to the ceremonial law (meat & drink offerings, animal sacrifices, etc.) NOT God's law, His Ten Commandments.
Excuse 16. Jesus is my rest, therefore I do not need to keep the Sabbath and rest on seventh day.
Answer. (Hebrew 4:7-10) "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief."
Excuse 17. It is not a sin to worship on Sunday instead of the seventh day Sabbath.
Answer. (1 John 3:4) "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." The law is God's Ten Commandments, and His fourth commandment regarding the Sabbath He commands us to obey, as well as the other nine commandments.

Excuse 18. I can obey nine of God's Ten Commandments, and disregard His fourth commandment.
Answer. (James 2:10) "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." When you break the fourth commandment you are guilty of breaking all the Ten Commandments.
Excuse 19. As long as I do good works and believe that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour, I don't need to obey the fourth commandment to keep the Sabbath holy.
Answer. (Matthew 7:22-23) "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Iniquity = known sin) You now know you should obey God's Ten Commandments, including His fourth commandment. If you choose not to obey, then you are considered workers of iniquity, and Jesus will tell you..... "depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
*FUTURE Excuse 20. The laws of our country enforce Sunday worship. (Sunday laws are coming soon!)
Answer. (Acts 5:29) "We ought to obey God rather than men." (Matthew 15:9) "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Acts 4:19) “Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye." Chap 5:29; Daniel 3:16-18; 6:10
(Ecclesiastes 12:13-14) “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into Judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
(Revelation 14:12) "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
(Revelation 22:14) “Blessed are they that do His commandments that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
