"Excuse Me--Your Pure Light is Showing"

2 Corinthians 4:6-7, "6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."  Have you ever met someone that just seems to "shine?" I have, and it is a characteristic that I have learned to look for when I meet people. It is one way to know that "This is one of my brothers/sisters." In this verse Paul tells us where that internal light originates. The interesting thing is that to account for the light that shines in our life, He takes us all the way back to the origin of light in His creation!  Paul infers that the same light that was commanded to shine out of the universal darkness (if "universe" it may be called pre-creation) now shines through us out of the darkness of this present world. We are connected with that creation moment "When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy"! (Job 38:7 ) The rippling waves of that dynamic moment continue to shine forth in us! That is exciting stuff.

It may offend our sense of importance, but it could not be more clear that "shining star" of this light display is the "glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." We are no more than the container, the vessel. We are the glass bulb, and He is the majestic filament that glows with light. That is good--and the way it should be--because it guarantees the excellence of the power.  Our goal--our challenge--is to contain and transmit the light to our environment in its purest form. Not to change, refract, add to or detract from, we seek to be transparent vessels shining with the same power and glory as the Pure Light that first penetrated the universal void, and now penetrates the hearts of men!
