Vertu reports ‘positive trading’ with ‘resilient’ used car market
Vertu Motors saw trading profit for the three months to 31 May 2023 up on the same period last year driven by a ‘resilient’ used car market and improving new car supply It said that full year results for FY24 are expected to be in line with current market expectations.

Car buyers keeping deposits and payments “remarkably consistent” despite interest rate increases
Motor finance deposits and monthly payments have stayed “remarkably consistent” over the last 12 months despite ongoing Bank of England interest increases prompting higher rates for used car buyers. New figures from iVendi show that a year ago, the average deposit for a used car was £2,859 while the monthly payment was £292. Today, although the base rate has risen from 1.25% to 5.0% over that period, it is largely unchanged at £2,932 and £304 respectively.

Volkswagen scales back EV production
Volkswagen has introduced measures to temporarily scale back production of electric models at one of its German plants. According to the car maker's work council, a shift at Volkswagen's Emden plant has been cancelled for the next two weeks in the lead-up to the traditional summer holiday shutdown in July and August which has been extended for EV production by one week to 4 weeks.
