We interviewed Seb de Lemos , he is the CEO of?Verpex, and he got to answer a lot of questions especially regarding the current acquisition of? Garanntor (Acquired by Verpex) , a?web hosting company?which services have now been fully merged into the Verpex system, and according to Seb, further upgrades have been implemented since the acquisition.
We also got answers to important questions like, how the team is handling hosting services, their experience with web hosting, plus how the company is attending to the needs of customers, including that of the acquired company,?garanntor.
More importantly, we looked into affordability, reliability and hands-on support system that they've put in place.
Without further ado, let's delve into the interview with Seb,?Verpex Chief Executive Officer.
(QUESTION) How long has?Verpex?been in operation?
(ANSWER) Approximately 3 years, but the team behind it have been running hosting businesses since 2003 so we know what we are doing. We host around 300,000 websites now.
(QUESTION) Tell us more about Verpex! - Why should anyone choose Verpex as their hosting company?
(ANSWER)?Verpex is a web hosting brand for shared hosting, reseller hosting, domains and servers. When we started Verpex we wanted to be able to work for a global market. So we set out to be completely location agnostic. That means we're not tied to any particular location, cloud provider or hardware setup. Our support teams are also global and 24/7 in various offices. We also decided to include everything - so our prices include everything that other hosts may charge extra for (backups, SSL certificats, custom nameservers, migrations and so on).
And we have amazing support! So, the key is we offer the best hosting out there for the cheapest price, and we do it globally. The reason we can do that is the automation and tooling we built. In terms of comparisons with long-term industry players, there are two: first, we've been able to build a system from scratch using the latest tech and a clean slate. Second, we're after long-term relationships with customers so we can keep prices low because we know our service is good so customers stay long term.
(QUESTION) Can you tell us what led to the acquisition of Garanntor, was garanntor a struggling or dying web hosting company?
(ANSWER) We're always looking for companies to acquire and are very experienced in taking over businesses where the owners want to move on. Garanntor itself I won't go into too much but had been neglected -- there was a backlog of thousands of tickets and a number of services were not being renewed for customers such as domains.?
It had declined from being a great Nigerian success story to a frustrating experience for Garanntor customers. We stepped in to basically turn it around and fix the issues.
(QUESTION) Since you took over, what has changed, and were you able to retain most of garanntor's customers?
(ANSWER) Initially we had to solve a number of problems, that involved clearing the support backlog, renewing many domains that had expired, and then doing a huge audit of everything.
Once everything was settled we then brought clients into Verpex but kept all prices the same. That means clients then had access to Verpex support and systems.
(QUESTION) What were the biggest challenges you had with garanntor's acquisition?
(ANSWER) No challenges -- since we're made up of a team that is very experienced in hosting migrations and acquisitions, the rest was seamless!
(QUESTION) Industry-wise, would you say your pricing is more competitive?
(ANSWER) Yes. I don't think anyone come close to us on price for the features and quality packages that we offer.
(QUESTION) Seb, what is your role at Verpex hosting company?
(ANSWER) I am the CEO
(QUESTION) What are the payment options you've implemented on the platform?
(ANSWER) We support PayStack and Flutterwave, both brilliant Nigerian payment gateways that are already huge in Africa. We also support international methods like Stripe (cards) and PayPal. We're a registered Nigerian busines (Verpex Hosting Africa Ltd) so it's a local transaction for any Verpex customers in Nigeria using us.
(QUESTION) Does Verpex have an affiliate program like garanntor? And what happens to the previous earnings that garanntor affiliates have accumulated before its takeover?
