Exciting Primary Care Behavioral Health Services Expansion at Santa Rosa Community Health — Now Hiring!
We are thrilled to announce that Santa Rosa Community Health (SRCH) has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) as part of its Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI). This grant will allow us to introduce integrated behavioral health services at our pediatric clinic in the Roseland neighborhood of Santa Rosa, California.
Under the direction of Tara Budinger, PhD, our Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) program aims to make behavioral health care a routine part of medical care, as specialized mental health treatment is often difficult for families to find. By providing easier access to integrated, culturally responsive behavioral health services, SRCH hopes to significantly enhance the overall care experience and health outcomes for families at its Pediatric Campus.
The new integrated behavioral health services will improve the overall care experience for families in these key ways:
1.???? Increased access to behavioral health support: The program will add two full-time pediatric behavioral health providers, allowing up to 2,500 individual patients to receive behavioral health services in the first year. This additional support will significantly expand access for families who previously struggled to obtain these services.
2.???? Same-day appointments and warm handoffs: A new Behavioral Health Assistant will help coordinate same-day appointments, allowing families to get help when they need it most. The behavioral health providers can also do warm handoffs from primary care visits, providing immediate support.
3.???? Culturally responsive care: The program specifically seeks bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates from similar communities as the families served, ensuring culturally appropriate and linguistically accessible care.
4.???? Support for the whole family: The program aims to serve not just children but also parents and caregivers, potentially reaching up to 5,000 individuals. This two-generational approach supports parents in their critical role.

5.???? Integrated care model: By embedding behavioral health services within primary care, families can receive comprehensive care in one familiar setting, reducing barriers and stigma.
6.???? Care navigation support: A new Behavioral Health Navigator will help families connect with community resources and complete referrals for more specialized care when needed.
7.???? Early intervention focus: The program will emphasize prevention, early intervention, and building resilience, helping to address behavioral health concerns before they become more serious.
8.???? Addressing social determinants of health: The program recognizes and aims to address the various social and economic factors impacting families' health and well-being.
In addition to this innovative pediatrics program, Santa Rosa Community Health is also expanding mental health services at its Dutton, Lombardi, and Vista Campuses, which will incorporate a Primary Care Behavioral Health Clinician (PCBHC) as part of a patient’s primary care team. The PCBHCs will be available to offer support with matters such as chronic pain, stress, mental health issues, making healthy lifestyle changes, child behavior issues, learning & memory problems, difficult life problems, relationship issues, sleep problems, non-medication ways to ease chronic disease, and more!
