An exciting next chapter for credit unions

It’s been an exciting and historic year for CUNA, NAFCU, AACUL, Leagues, and credit unions as we work toward our goals of advancing the communities we serve.

Advocacy is the primary way we do this, and together this year, we:?

• Successfully challenged the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s section 1071 rule, staying implementation for all covered entities, including credit unions.
• Got bipartisan legislation modernizing federal credit union board meeting requirements through the House and introduced in the Senate.
• Worked with NCUA to expand “charitable donation account,” to include veterans’ organizations, a change that is effective as of Dec. 21.
• Advocated for changes to the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund Certification Application that will lead to increased participation and flexibility for credit unions.

These wins, and many others at the federal, state, and local level, are the result of collaboration and leadership at every level, and we’re excited to achieve even more in 2024.

We have a packed year ahead in advocacy, starting in January when Congress returns leading all the way to the November election, where we’ll work to ensure a credit union-friendly majority in the next Congress.

Announcing America’s Credit Unions leadership team

I’m thrilled to announce the leadership team of America’s Credit Unions: Chief Advocacy Officer Carrie Hunt, Chief Membership and Engagement Officer Anthony Demangone, Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer Eddie Rivera, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer Meghan Burris Small, and Chief Association Services Officer Todd Spiczenski. This team, along with Executive Vice President Jill Tomalin and I, will help transform the best of CUNA and NAFCU into America’s Credit Unions over the next year, and it’s a privilege to work alongside them.

Councils offers the best of credit union expertise

Nearly 9,000 members representing 1,500 credit unions get networking, career, and other opportunities through one of eight Councils. It’s now time to sign up for Councils for 2024. The eight councils are national professional societies run for and by credit union executives and they cover topics including CEO; Compliance and Risk; Finance; HR & Organizational Development; Lending; Marketing & Business Development; Operations & Member Experience; and Technology.
