Excitement is What is Missing!
Now I just completed the first 4 weeks of training for web development at Centriq Training. I am currently on a self-study week. I passed a fellow student in the hallways yesterday. I asked him if he knew what his project was going to be about? I became excited the minute he smiled, because I could feel his excitement. The bonus, was that his project is something that is near and dear to my heart! It is a project that in real world I know of a need for his application!!!
Excitement was the motivation I needed! He got the wheels turning in my head about how awesome it will be to see an application that I personally had thought about how to approach for a friend. In listening to him, I began to grasp and remember the purpose for me coming back for further training at Centriq. I have a passion for finding better, more efficient ways of using problem solving tools to not only provide a service for clients, but to provide a service they can be happy about!
Ready or not, he graduates next week, and he will be missed. As I spoke to him, and as I have thought back to his project numerous times today. I am excited to see what he will provide! Wherever he goes, people will be better just for knowing him, and being privileged enough to work with him!
Dumbing down, and owning my stupid has become my mantra these last four weeks, and I will continue with my mantra for years to come! Many times, I have struggled during my training, because I was waiting for my moment to geek out and be excited! I am creative, but, I am a big picture person. I need to know how everything works, so that, I can find the most efficient way to execute my task. I am detailed oriented and struggle with limited information. But, I was also overwhelmed with the wealth of knowledge I was being provided. So, you can imagine, I was really confused and frustrated.
Surprised is how I feel at this point. I thought going back to school was just about learning about how to become a web developer and that was it. But personally, I have grown a lot in just this last month of being a student again. I am taking the experiences I have had in my life and applying them with the new possibilities I will have moving forward. I am gaining confidence in myself again. I am excited about the future. And, I am learning to break things down into smaller more manageable pieces. Pieces, I can go back and fit together, to find a better, more efficient way for me to process.
