Excitement Builds as Construction Begins at Mount Trashmore Park

Some thrilling updates are coming to Mount Trashmore Park! The City of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Department is embarking on an exciting $1.6 million project aimed at enhancing the park's amenities and providing even more fun-filled experiences for visitors of all ages.

The highlight of the project is the addition of new playground equipment on the hill, including slides, climbers, and nets with safety surfacing. This expansion will add 3,200 square feet to the beloved Kid's Cove area, ensuring that there's plenty of space for kids to explore and play. During the renovations, the current Kid's Cove playground will remain open for everyone to enjoy. To ensure the safety of park-goers, a new safety barrier will be installed near the walking path adjacent to the hill.

In line with the City's commitment to accessibility, the new playground will be fully ADA-compliant, making it inclusive for all. As part of the project, two of the existing stairways will be replaced with concrete stairs, addressing concerns about the deterioration of the timber used in the current structures.

Visitors will notice significant improvements to the stairways near the city seal and closer to Kid's Cove, with additional steps to enhance accessibility. With construction underway, dirt on the hill is expected to be turned in about six to eight weeks, marking an exciting milestone in the project timeline.

As part of the park's revitalization efforts, the smaller playground off Edwin Drive is also undergoing changes. Crews have been hard at work removing the old play set and replacing it with vibrant, new equipment. With the finishing touches being added, this revamped playground is set to dazzle visitors by mid-March.
