The excitement of 36!

Less than three weeks until NAB 2017! Time sure does seem to be competing with Usain Bolt.

After 35 NABs,  I would not expect any big excitement about yet another one – at least not as much as in 1981 when Ampex, then the vtr King, was the center of attention, not just because of the VPR2B (1-inch C format vtr), but also because of the digital TBC and a very high-tech item for the time: the electronic still store (ESS). Quadruplex was dead! 36 years later, dozens of new (and almost immediately soon-to-be old) tape and disk formats, lots of once unfathomable (and almost immediately obsolete) technologies, I continue to look forward to NAB. Certain relationships are truly timeless – go figure. The only explanation for being involved in this industry since 1976 is really deep passion! 

GLOOKAST and CIS GROUP will be in Vegas operating out of GLOOKAST’s booth (SU11010), South Upper Hall, where AVID, our main partner for the last 26 years, is also located (SU902). Many of our partners are conveniently located in South Hall: Harmonic (SU1210), Object Matrix (SL5405), SGL (SL5306), Nevion (SU5510), AJA (SL2505), Adobe (SL4010), Quantum (SL5705, SL5810). While not in South Hall, CALREC (C3118) will certainly be on our radar, after a very successful “audio innovation for broadcast road show" in Brazil, just last week. 

On Saturday April 22, GLOOKAST will, yet again, be present at Avid Connect 2017, which continues to be the greatest community gathering of media industry professionals in the world. ?   Capturer IP (SMPTE 2022-6), dual channel Capturer 4K, with full support to all flavors of DNxHR and XVAC480.

?   All versions of Capturer may include HD-SDI/4K pre-read monitoring and SDI clip player per channel. Never before has a director had such fast access to recently ingested content and metadata.

?   Expanding our line of capture control and automation, we will introduce LiveOps, a revolutionary ingest control and management system specially designed for sports and live events. If you are into live production, multicam studio recording or sports, and want to do much more, with less, you need to have a look at LiveOps.

Glooport is a family of distributed, load balanced, fully virtualized, cloud-ready services for software-defined workflows.

?   At NAB 2017 Glooport family will evolve workflows into the cloud. All Glooport services (ingest, park, retrieve, transcode and outgest) are now fully virtualizable and cloud deployable.

?   The all new Glooport media|producer is a truly innovative product that will change ingest into a much simpler, cost effective and productive process. With a fully redundant architecture, it enables three modes of operation: client to cluster mode (ingest over LAN and remote ingest over WAN), individual deployment mode for individual hosts, and field ingest mode.

So I have to admit that I am especially excited about NAB 2017, not just because I will see my dinosaur friends again and listen to their stories, but also (and primarily) because I am very happy with the results that our customers are achieving with the help of GLOOKAST technology: 50% of the 10 Latin America drama productions selected by MiPtv in Cannes use GLOOKAST products!
