Excerpt 14, from Runaway Horse
?Part of how the poetry of my art assemblages happens is by placing together incongruent elements which form an immediate relationship based on a combination of contrast and similarities. The proximity of images in my assemblages tells a story in itself, just as with a written story with characters that interact. And rather than words to describe the interactions, I have the benefit of using objects and images which can be placed beside one another, and visual characteristics like color, scale, and if figures are involved, gesture, will tell the story.
?There’s the famous early surrealist quote by Comte de Lautréamont, “As beautiful as the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table.” The positioning of the jaguar and deep sea diver is astonishingly beautiful.?
