Excellent Content /Good Presentation??or Excellent Presentation/Good Content?
Which Public Speaking combination is best?
A recent speaking competition ended in a dead heat - a split verdict on two entrants. One person praised for the “excellence” of his content and a “good” grade for presentation. The other, “excellent” in the presentation stakes and a “good” for her content. A joint prize was eventually awarded. Win-Win?
In a perfect world, excellence in both categories would be highly desirable. But if you had to choose between “Excellent Content-Good Presentation?” or “Excellent Presentation-Good Content?”, which would you choose and why?
In a LINKED IN post a close colleague asked for ideas to make a good presentation or public speech. Over 1400 replies were received and I put the best 300 together in bullet point format. A very simple word document. Nothing fancy. If you want a copy just let me know [email protected]
The 300 bullets are presented in a range of formats: -
- Verbatim comments from some of the Linked In contributors
- Short summary point capturing similar comments made by several people, albeit in different ways
- Areas of personal disagreement with some of the points – you decide
- Sources of other reading and/or websites. There is some commercial material-not from me! I have visited websites which the commercial postings have signposted. They are all high quality with an American bias
- I have injected my own ideas
So again – “Excellent Content-Good Presentation” or “Excellent Presentation-Good Content”, which would you choose and why?
